An IP address is like your home address, but for your computer or phone on the internet. It’s a special number that lets other computers on the internet know where to send information, like emails or websites you want to look at.
Just like your home address has a street name and a house number, an IP address has numbers and dots (like 123.45.67.89) or for newer ones, numbers and letters (like 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334). This helps make sure that the information sent across the internet ends up in the right place, just like a letter sent to your home address.
