Core or processor core, is the part of a computer’s central processing unit (CPU) that interprets and carries out the commands from the computer’s hardware and software. In multi-core processors, the term refers to the individual processing units.

Each core can run its own tasks independently of the others, which allows multitasking and increases the overall speed and efficiency of the computer. For example, a quad-core processor has four cores and can therefore execute four processes simultaneously.
