Copilot is the brand name of Microsoft’s suite of AI-assisted workplace products.


An overview of different implementations of Microsoft Copilot (2024):

  • Microsoft Copilot: previously Bing Chat, more info here.
    • Microsoft Copilot (Personal Use): Free access with more advanced capabilities available through Microsoft Copilot Pro.
    • Microsoft Copilot (Business Use): Included with most Microsoft 365 business subscriptions, with additional capabilities through a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.
  • GitHub Copilot: A code completion tool that uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 model to generate code suggestions based on natural language comments or existing code. It is available as a Visual Studio Code extension and works with a variety of programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, and more.
  • Github Copilot Workspace: lets developers brainstorm, plan, build, test, and run code in natural language. It leverages different Copilot agents to help developers from idea to code, and is designed to lower the barrier of entry to software development.
  • GitHub Copilot X: A premium version of GitHub Copilot that offers more features and capabilities, such as generating entire functions or classes, creating unit tests, refactoring code, and integrating with GitHub Codespaces.
  • Copilot Dynamics 365: A suite of tools that uses large language models (LLMs) to enhance the functionality and usability of Microsoft Dynamics 365, a cloud-based business application platform. It includes features such as natural language query, data analysis, report generation, workflow automation, and chatbot creation. It was designed to enhance productivity across business functions like sales, service, and marketing by automating tasks and generating content through natural language processing
  • Copilot Windows: A feature that uses LLMs to help users navigate and customize Windows 11 operating systems. It can answer questions, provide tips and tricks, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks using voice or text commands. It is accessible from the taskbar or the Start menu .
  • Copilot M365: A feature that uses LLMs to assist users with various tasks and scenarios in Microsoft 365 apps, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. It can create content, edit documents, summarize text, rewrite sentences, change tone, generate charts, suggest actions, and more. It is embedded in the apps or can be invoked by typing @copilot in the command box .
  • Copilot Chat: A new experience that uses LLMs to chat with users about work-related topics and help them achieve their goals. It works across the Microsoft Graph data and the Microsoft 365 apps to generate natural language responses based on user prompts. It can do things like draft emails, create presentations, update status reports, schedule meetings, and more. It is available from Bing.com/chat or the Microsoft Edge sidebar .
  • Copilot Viva: A suite of tools that uses LLMs to support employee well-being and engagement in the hybrid workplace. It includes features such as wellness tips, learning recommendations, feedback surveys, recognition badges, and more. It is integrated with Microsoft Viva, a new employee experience platform that connects with Microsoft 365 apps .
  • Copilot Power Platform: An AI companion that guides you through the app creation process, from creating and importing data tables, to designing your app screens, to publishing and sharing your app. It integrates within Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Pages, assisting from creation to deployment.
  • Copilot for Power BI (Preview): Integrates natural language prompts within Power BI.
  • Copilot in Microsoft Fabric: Supports data professionals with AI-powered tools and capabilities.
  • Copilot for Azure (Preview): Aids in managing and optimizing Azure resources, currently in public preview.
  • Copilot for Security: Similar to the Copilot for Azure, the Microsoft Security Copilot harnesses the power of AI technology to simplify and streamline security management tasks.
